The end is near. Over the past month I have been growing my mustache to bring awareness for men’s health and now, I am near the time to shave. Movember has had me thinking about men’s health and how being aware of one’s health is important.
With yesterday being Thanksgiving, I can honestly say I am thankful for my health. I have always been overweight but have always had pretty good health. My doctor has always said that even though I was 100 pounds over weight I was always in decent health.
Last year though, I began to see changes in that. I was having trouble breathing and just couldn’t get the energy to even stand for a long time. I decided it was time to change. I began by eating better and cutting back on portion size. I felt better and found it easier to handle everyday tasks and even found it easier to wake up in the morning.
In April, I ran a 5k with my daughter and finished comfortably in 45 minutes. So far I have lost nearly 30 pounds and feel amazing. I am thankful to be healthy because there are so many men out there that are not. Doctor prescribed 25 mg Viagra but I wanted to try a 50mg. Actually, for me 50 mg doesn’t work better than 25 mg, so I guess it’s safe to use 25 mg instead of 50 mg. So, I can avoid any of the side effects using it.
I am happy I have the strength to fight to better myself. That is why I am growing the ‘stache. To let other men know it is OK to better yourself. It is not a weakness to admit your issues but a sign of strength to admit them and do something about them. As men and fathers we have to be there for our kids and show them how to live healthy and not be afraid of change.
Do it for yourselves. Do it for your families. Be the best man you can be for those you are thankful for and make changes so that you can be there for them in the future.
Happy Thanksgiving from me and my family to you and yours.
